Stamford Homes

Hi guys

We are looking to buy a property at the new Welland Park development in Stamford. The development is being done by Stamford Homes (part of Galliford Try). I wanted to know if anyone has bought from them previously and their experiences?

Specifically;

1) Quality of the builds (difficult to tell initially as everything is brand new!)

2) Potential discounts if any?

3) The general area of the development ( its just off Little Casterton Road)

Any help will me much appreciated !

Cheers

    Many years ago, Lambeth Walk which is off Little Casterton Road did have a reputation as being the council estate where problem families were housed, but I think this was overexaggerated as I knew several people who lived there and were mostly law abiding. It's not the best area in Stamford but there has been a glut of housebuilding over the past 40 years so it's now mainly residential, the brickworks and the steel fabrication workshops have long gone and the yarn/woollen mill has closed. The town cemetery is towards the bottom of the road.

    At present it's very close to open countryside, but knowing how Stamford has expanded over the last 60 years, that may not last long.

    Thanks for the response. The housing estate itself looks really nice people seem friendly. We can't decide between this area and Arran road (on the other side of Old great N road/B1081). Do you have any info about that area?

    Cheers

    Arran Road is in the midst of a large private housing development of mostly detached houses and runs between Casterton Road and Empingham Road, both well regarded as residential roads, even though one is B1081 and other is A606. A few council built houses where it joins Empingham Road. Better area than Little Casterton Road and houses are well over 30 yrs old, so any snags should have been sorted. Only real disadvantage is that it is a long walk into town!

    Hmm.. interesting. The new build site we are looking at is a bit off Casterton Road, if you look on google maps its this big plot of barren land just after Elgar Way and Ravel Close. Both Stamford Homes and Jelson Homes are developing estates there.

    I guess the advantage of a new build will be little or no TLC. The house we looked at on Arran Road is quite a few years old (like you said) and will require some work. On the plus side it is detached as opposed to the new build which is a semi. :think:

    That barren land is the site of the old brickworks. Jelson built hundreds of homes in Stamford during 1960s/70s and possibly 1980s, Arran Road may even be Jelson built. They were Leicester based and a very prolific builder, building in Oakham and Melton Mowbray also.

    I would always prefer a detached to a semi, and (personal choice) I would prefer to live in the Arran Road area as opposed to off Little Casterton Road. I would also imagine the Arran Road house has a larger plot. The Sir Malcolm Sargent School is very near also.
