Blood in cats urine

Hi all
I have a 3 year old neutered tom who, last week while my son was on the toilet, walked into the bathroom and wee'd in the bathtub! To my knowledge he has never wee'd anywhere other than outside (we don't have a litter tray). Today we have gine upstairs and he appears to have gone in the bath again sometime this afternoon but this time there is blood in the urine:eek:
We will obviously phone the vet tomorrow but I wondered if anyone has any advice both about the unusual behaviour and the bood ?

Firstly, don't panic too much as the chances are that it's nothing too serious, but you still want to make sure that you take puss to the vet as soon as possible.
One of my cats (also a neutered tom) had this same problem a few years ago (actually happened twice, a few months apart).
It turned out to be a kidney infection which was easily treated by a course of antibiotics.
The vet told me that the blood in the urine can irritate the bladder, causing the cat to pee in strange places.
Before you go to the vet, see if you can collect a small sample of the urine as they may need this for examination.0 -
If he starts to strain to pass urine and nothing comes out, he should get to a vet tonight. A male cat with a blocked bladder is a serious complication. If urine is coming out still, you should be OK for tomorrow morning0

I haven't seen him straining at all but as I mentioned before we don't have a litter tray and he and his mum go outside.
We've felt all round his back and tummy and he doesn't seem to mind us touching him so no obvious pain. We wouldn't have known about the blood if he hadn't used the bath. He's still eating and doesn't seem to be drinking any more or less than usual.0 -
I am no cat expert but it could be a number of things namely,
trauma...has he hurt himself
infection...likely and may need antibiotics
tumour..a possibilty need to see the vet
stones...kidney stones
overdose...has he had contact with any medication?

What snowman said!
If he is still managing to pee, then he should be OK with an appointment with the vet in the morning.
If he starts to strain and not produce anything, call the vet asap!
May be worth keeping him in tonight so you can keep an eye on him?I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Off to the vets later. He seems to be in no pain, we've seen no evidence of straining and he is eating / drinking normally. The vet said it sounds like cystitis - will let you know how we get on. Thanks to everyone for your advice.0

Back from vets. She said he's not in discomfort at all and has an empty bladder which is good as it means he's weeing. They've given him and antibiotic jab and we have to put him on wet food for a couple of days and then take him back Wednesday so they can look at him again and try and get a sample.
Very relieved there's no blockage (got quite frightened reading a couple of the posts last night) and hopefully the antibiotics will sort him out.
