New Civil Service Compensation Package

Well, in the new financial year they'll be running yet another one in my department but under the new terms. One interesting feature is the fact that any previous service outside your current service will not be taken into account. Bit of a bummer for me because I had 3.5 years service from 1988 - 1992 and rejoined in 1994. It would have been taken into account under the old scheme. Ho hum, that's 3.5 months pay I won't get. I just hadn't thought they might do that.

I am so pleased that 5 years ago I was able to take early retirement from CS after 35 years service. I am told by former colleagues that every "scheme" announced since then has less and less benefits. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Not much a shock that the benefits are going down - they were too high. I think they have got it about right now. The old system really benefited the lifers like lincroft1710 but was not very kind to those that gave maybe 10 years service. Nuvos has reversed that a bit.0

To be honest it's still quite generous but if I'd known they'd do this I might have been more tempted to take the old scheme. I don't recall seeing any mention of this before the scheme came out. I've transferred between a few Govt depts so I've gone through to make sure my paperwork's watertight. It looks okay but the way things are 1 day out which could be used as a break in service and they've got you! Gits!0

On the other hand, you are likely to get more than 3.5 months' pay before receiving any severance pay.0 -
It's good to see that the civil service is starting to turn away from the Iron Rice Bowl approach, tbh.0

They still have it if they've only just done away with previous employment being counted in redundancy! And that's before we look at one month's pay for every year.
Just your opinion and my opinion differs!0 -
Just for comparison purposes,I;m private sector and consider myself fortunate to have a two weeks per year deal.
No wish to open up the public vs private sector arguments it's merely comparitive.Space available for rent0 -

May be different understanding of "iron rice bowl". Mine is it means can't be made redundant (ie same as tenure) rather than get a good redundancy payoff.0 -
Don't wish to argue but i work for local gov and our package for me anyway is 1 week per year. So for those getting 2 weeks in private sector your doing well!!0
