Hi

My daughter got this email, usually I;d tell her to ignore, but they got her first second and middle name exactly right, and she did take a brief business course at high school(doubt this is too relevant) A little confused?

    Looks perfectly legitimate.

    Clues:

    1) Correct name
    2) Relevant to something she actually did
    3) Not asking for money
    4) Normal, geographical, telephone number

The only thing wrong is that they should not really be asking you to click links in th email* but the links both point to "www.citycol.ac.uk" so it's unlikely that there's anything untoward on that front.

    * Not because there is anything wrong with the links but people should not be encouraged to click links in emails as it makes it more likely that they will click on a 'bad' one in the future.

Other clue ... ac.uk ... academic email address is correct.

  • Hi

Thanks for the advice above guys ^
Only problem is, we live really far away from birmingham, and I know that it'd be good for my daughter to have some extra qualifications and the certificate to prove it. I've sent them an email a while ago, asking if it could possibly be sent would pay towards stamps etc, but I'm not recieving a response. Anyone know (a student maybe) who could point me in the right direction for a reply

If you hover over the link in the original email you will see in the bottom bar the website you will actually be taken to- if it says something like ww.fjgur7689oe.com then don't click lol.
  • Ooops, I've already clicked, it just takes me to a web address ending in col.ac/ something. But an error comes onto the page, Its not a virus thingy is it?

Looks fine to me. Why not phone them up to check and see if they can post it? If you're especially paranoid look up their phone number independently rather than use the one in the email.

That had actually slipped my mind, Can't believe how ditzy i am :p Thanks for suggesting that :rotfl:
Think I will be that little extra paranoid, if the numbers match then at least its an indication that the certificate does exist!
