Both a Mastercard and Visa?

Is it a good idea to have both a Mastercard and Visa to ensure you can always pay if a system goes down?

Having a back up is always a good idea but it can be say 2 visas or 2 mastercards I don't see any advantage of getting one and one. I prefer visa myself and believe it is more widely accepted but have the post office and Halifax clarity credit card for a perfect exchange rate abroad and both are mastercards.
