I just got the new Splinter Cell game and realised that my graphics card is only shader 2.0 enabled and not shader 3.0 enabled which is required to run the game.
Does anyone know the cheapest 256mb graphics card that will be compatible with this game?
Thanks

It should tell you on the side of the box what card is recommended0

A 6600gt should do you fine. Or a x1600xt on the ati front, both around the £80 mark.
While a 7100gs will run the game, it will be unplayable without using all but the lowest resolution.0 -
It says ati X1600,X1800,X1900
Nvidia 6600/6800/7300/7600/7800/7900
Which is the cheapest out of these?"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

AGP or PCI-E?
And I'd say leave out the 7300. G0 -
AGP is what i will be using"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

More than likely the lower the card the lower the price.... Have you even tried using google and searching for the cards and prices??... You have a list of the ones you need... Not all will be AGP anyway..0

I think with graphics cards it is a mistake to get the cheapest card that will work. You'll find the game will only just run but not that playable. You should set a budget and then get the best card possible for that budget. Remember if you are into playing games then the grphics card should cost wise be by far the most significant component in the pc."She is quite the oddball. I may just sell the game on ebay now...all my other games work fine with my current graphics card. Its just splinter cell da requires a gc that supports shader 3.0. Dont really wanna spend another 80+ on a gc just for one game, it makes no sense."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

Yes, unfortunately eBay may be your best bet.maniac886 wrote:I may just sell the game on ebay now... Dont really wanna spend another 80+ on a gc just for one game, it makes no sense.
I was going to say buyng a 'better' graphics card could be seen as an investment, but an AGP one for ~£80-100 mark isn't going to stand very long & probably not at all with many present or future games.
The game received mixed reviews at Amazon UK - note that the latest reviewer had a spanking system but still couldn't play it upto desirable standard (of course we don't know the full story or what actually went wrong). Shader 3 problems confirmed at Amazon US (see last couple of reviews), & one has mentioned many more problems at the Ubisoft forums.
I'd suggest to save yourself any further stress & get rid of it. G0
