How do I sell a battered old Toyota Estima?

Hi there

I want to sell my Toyota Estima eight-seater, about 16 years old, imported from Japan.

It goes fine but makes alarming crunching noises, and I fear it won't get through its MOT in March without considerable expenditure.

Would I be better to sell it quickly now, or invest in the MOT and sell it after?

And where would I be best off advertising it? Ebay? Local paper? Toyota owners website?

Thank you to anyone who can advise.

    ebay.
    It'll sell, they're quite popular.
  • Why not do the MOT and then sell on eBay with the results of the MOT in the description. Who knows, you may luck out on the MOT. Either way it shows buyers what to expect.
  • You could stick it up on Autotrader, Gumtree, Pistonheads, local paper etc now stating 1 month MOT remaining.

^Alternatively this, listed as 'spares or repairs'.

Crunching sound does not sound good. Sell as above, or take it to the scrap yard yourself to have it 'weighed in', I'd have thought £150 would be a fair price.

I hope this can be taken without offence as it is a simple observation.

Every time I, or any one I know has advertised a Toyota, readless of type/condition, it has gone to an Indian guy. More often than not to a Taxi driver.

Sell it with an honest description and I bet it sells;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Thank you everyone for your advice. I am going to put it on Ebay with an accurate description of all its faults.

What is the best day and time for the auction to close? I was thinking of ending it on Sunday afternoon, so anyone who wanted to come and look at the car could do so on Saturday or Sunday morning, and the winner could collect it on Sunday afternoon.

    But what would you advise?

    Thanks again.

I'd finish Saturday evening, then they could collect Sunday.
Sunday afternoon is too late to sort out the same day for most people.

Thanks Mikey. I had better go out and clean and photograph it then.

The car is worth £1,000 with an MOT (vague figure) it will only be worth scrap or a little more without.

Worth hving it MOT'd (it might pass) and then decide where to go with it. A few bob spent might recoup a few hundred pounds.
