3 Watt LED Vs50Watt Halogen
I have recently started to use 3Watt LED down-lighters in my home. I used to have 10X50Watt Halogen bulbs. This means instead of burning 50watts I only use 3Watts per bulb. This means that every 2 hours instead of using 1KWh I only use 30watts per hour. In winter time the kitchen lights are on for 6 hours a day, so this is 3KWhs a day, X 7 days a week, X 26 weeks a year= 546KWh’s@15p perKWh= £81 for 6 months use. With LED bulbs I now spend only £16, a saving of £64 per 6 months. The GU10LED bulbs cost me £3.50each or £35. 12volt MR16 LED Bulbs are also available.
If you have 50Watt Halogen bulbs and they are used a lot then it really looks like a good idea to change them.

You should bear in mind that if the replacement lamps are 12v MR16LED, you also have to add the cost of replacing the transformer(s).0

I have just (this week) had these fitted in my kitchen:
http://www.halers.com/neutral_white_nw/dl_wh_f_nw_dim__evoled/24300_p.html
They are not cheap, about £40 each, but have a 7 year warranty. They are mains fed, so no need for transformers (which are pretty reliable anyway).
The spec sheet gives a life of 75,000 hrs - which should last the OP for 34 years !!
PS: They are brilliant - literally :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I think I'll stick with my bio bulbs. To think I ummed and ahhhed about their cost (£5 each at the time on 'special' on Amazon).
PS How many of those LED bulbs are you using in the kitchen, moonrakerz?0 -

Seven lamps and each lamp holds 3 LEDs.0 -
Where did you get the LEDs for £3.50 and are they bright enough0

Wouldn't have thought 3W LED GU10 were as bright as 50W Halogen.
I have had to use 9W LED GU10s to get that sort of brightness.0 -

No - if I wanted to save money I would have left the grotty old 40W fluorescent tube in place, that would have saved me 15W
I also had the ceiling re-boarded and skimmed and a new back door put in the kitchen.........................I suppose neither of those were really necessary0
