How many days holidays per year is the law for UK workers?

If the work takes 8 hours then it takes 8 hours so the sooner he does it yes the sooner he gets to go home. It is an unpaid dinner break so if wants to take an hour off in the middle and they aren't stopping him then take it but he'll have to stay an hour longer at the end so finishing at 3pm every day.
He needs to work out how many days he's taken as holiday so far and how many are due. It's 5.6 weeks per year including the bank holidays but as he's working them he should be taking a weeks break a little more often than every 3 months.
They dont have any kind of schedule's that say he gets a dinner, the workers simply go in at 6am and get to go home when they are finished, which could be anytime between 2pm and even 4pm.
Its all a little sketchy because my friend doesnt reveal too much to me nowadays as he knows I will get on his case to speak up for himself. I have spoke to his brother recently and heard a few more underhanded things that has happened to him, but my friend wont tell me anymore because I play war with him telling him to stick up for himself lol.
One thing is for definite! He has been taking one week's holiday (5 days) every 3 month since he started 2 years ago, he is only getting 20 days per year holiday.
I am going to phone him tonight and let him know this info.0 -
What the new system means is for those who can and do work bank holidays, they now have a choice about when they take the time off as it is part of their total Annual Leave. What it has done is remove the extra pay/time off in lieu if you do work a BH. However if your workplace does not operate on a BH you will either have to use one of your holiday days or lose pay.Truth always poses doubts & questions. As I mentioned in post #5, the amount of statutory holiday was increased by an amount equivalent to the 8 bank holidays.
hoffmeister's friend has to work bank holidays normally so his holiday entitlement does not include the bank holidays, his entitlement is to 5.6 weeks (28 days).
He also needs to check when the holiday year runs from - eg from 1 January or 1 April or some other fixed date for the company. If there isn't one then it is from the anniversary of his own start date with the organisation.

If your workplace does not operate on a bank holiday then what happens about payment for bank holidays is governed by the contract, not the working time regulations.0 -

DH has worked shifts for 10 years with the same company and some weeks his working time will fall on a BH - he never got extra pay for this. However prior to the changes he did get equivalent holiday (in hours in his Annual Leave as this is the way most companies who run shift work as well as Monday to Friday jobs do things). Although the office where I work is closed on BH if we wish to work that day and there is access we can and take the time when it suits us.

I did refer to the person in question being my friend and that is correct. I have just spoke to him and told him the good news but he quickly changed the conversation to something else as he probably knows he is probably being screwed already but cant be bothered with the aggro.0 -

there has never been an automatic right to enhanced pay for working on a bank holiday, it is all down to terms of contract.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
