Drain off pipe advice please?

I've just moved house and need to update some of the plumbing. One thing that is priority is a double waste outlet so the washing machine and dishwasher can both have permanent fixed drain off hoses rather than having to swap them round to use each machine iyswim.
I have bought a Y connector, but for some reason something is stopping me fitting it before I check further. Is there a risk of either backflow or a vaccuum being created if I just use this?
Please help a girlie who is trying to do things for herself! Thank you.

Hi,
No idea what you have under the sink, space, waste height etc, but McAlpine are the best traps IMO.
Waste hose should rise up and then back down to machine rather than just hang to prevent back flow , especially the dishwasher.
