Contents insurance whilst in storage?

Can someone tell me which insurers are willing to cover contents in a storage unit other than insurastore and the storage unit's own? My insurance company wouldn't cover and I'm struggling to find a company that will apart from insurastore or storageboost which I'm using to store my stuff.
We use insurastore. I'm curious why you don't want to use them?0 -
My insurance company (Direct Line) originally told me they would insure my belongings (mostly in storage, but some with me where I'm now living). Tonight they changed their minds!!! Insurastore don't have any storage facilities in my region which they insure at all at present. I'm waiting for them to get back to me, but meantime - does anyone know any insurers who will cover us? We need cover for the contents of one flat including personal possessions and also for the stuff in storage.

to be honest, i would understand if they were genuinely trying to limit their liability, but it seems like it's just a guise to make more money.
before anyone says "holy thread bump". I'm looking at self storage, this thread it still current and topical. So don't waste your breath.0 -

Always haggle, with the downturn in the housing market they are all struggling to fill there rooms up.
I live near a university and they're always telling me "students are going to get storage so put a deposit down now to save your spot".
I rarely fall for that, I run a business- when I'm running out of stock/supplies rarely will I push that hard - for me it's just a case of first come first serve so whoever pays first I'll supply to them rather than pushing someone into buying because "we're running out".
I think the storage market is very competitive though, i've seen how ruthless they are with following up with enquiries, I got called back within 15 minutes of submitting a web query for quote by safestore.
I said I don't need it now, but I may need it a week later. Then called me back immediately the following week. LOL
I think it's just sales rubbish, I just need a phone box size storage space to keep some small business equipment safe.
Btw, the downturn issue, surely it will increase demand for their services rather than reverse, as people are downsizing or moving from mortgages to rented property.0 -
I'm really glad I found this (old) thread.. I'm currently looking for storage space due to outgrowing our cottage and not wanting to move to a bigger house.. I really hadn't thought about insurance (I was more worried about damp and access)
Oh well.. back to the maths books0 -
I'm about to rent a 200 sq. ft room at Safestore in Staines. The lady at the store advised me that I had to have insurance, and that I could take their own policy or I was also welcome to get third-party cover. After doing a bit of research, I came across this thread. I called the lady back to double-check, and she says that the requirement to use Safestore's own policy is outdated, and that they WILL accept third-party cover. She emailed me back to confirm this in writing.
Hope that helps.

Continuing the thread Safestore has changed its policy again and now only business customers who can provide their insurance details don't have to take Safestore insurance.
I must admit I'm curious regarding any policies/regulations for Safestore employees selling insurance, and if they actually follow them.
I've also been told the minimum insurance is £2000. That's an additional £4 per week and that adds up fast.0 -
Safestore are no longer authorised by the Financial services register either. Does that mean anything useful? I can't post a link because I'm new...0

My local storage place is Stadium (York), they do offer insurance but I went to insurastore who were much cheaper and it wasn't a problem. I paid £24 to insure for £2000 for 15 weeks, just extended it for another year and it's an extra £76. Compared tothe in house insurance this was much cheaper. :T0

I used Insurastore when I got a unit with Ready Steady Store.
RSS wouldn't accept the insurance even though they are on the list on the site.
Insurastore apparently know that RSS don't accept their policies but still sell them and then try to charge an admin fee when you cancel.
A nice little earner for them!
They made a song and dance about giving me a refund, then spoiled for a fight. I reported them to the FSA who did sweet FA about it, but at least it was registered.0
