Wearing in shoes

Help! I spent a million pounds (ish) on a pair of doc martens leather boots and they hurt. I've had these years ago and know how soft they can get, and the idea was that I would wear them in. But it hurts! How do I get these to behave?? The pain is localised to the top of the heel...

My DH who never has trouble wearing in shoes had sore heels with his new DMs. BUT....he thinks they are the best thing now. Maybe wear those big plasters on your heels and break them in an hour or so at a time? I suffer from soft heels and my mum used to bash the inside of the heels of my new shoes with that thing that you use to take out the ash pan! Wouldn't recommend that though!

When I used to wear DM's I used some stuff that was called animal hair but I can't find any now.
This stuff is really good and though it's not the cheapest, one roll should do you till they're broken in.

Vaseline softens leather too so you could put some on when you're not wearing them.
Ouch - look at that poor person's heels, it must be so painful!

Thank you both, no thanks button at the moment

So, persevere you say... I've tried thick socks... plasters here I come.
I definitely do not want heels like those in the photo. Makes your eyes water.:wall:0 -
I was taught to wet a bar of soap, and rub it over the inside of the shoe on the bit that causes problems. Leave them overnight to dry, and if the first application doesn't work, a second usually does. Somehow it softens the leather and the seams and makes it less likely to rub. My grandfather worked in a shoe shop, and absolutely swore by it - still works for me, worth a shot? Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

try compeed blister stick, one of my friends walked 50k last year and got no bother from her feet after using it! Vaseline can also be used in the same way to reduce friction, but don't know if it works or not. Also try zinc oxide tape, which you can get from Superdrug for £1.50.
I've also heard that you can use olive oil to soften the leather, so that might be worth a shot.0 -
two pairs of thin socks, or even socks over pop socks might be better than one pair of thick socks.
Talc on your feet first might help too. 0 -

LOL...........put the boots on thick newspaper to protect and hammer the insides!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
In the army we used to put on new boots then sit with feet in a bowl of warm water for an hour. Then walk around for 30 minutes, leave boots to dry naturally overnight. Perfect fit after that.0

I find with Docs your best bet is simply wearing them round the house with a thick pair of socks and some extra cushioning around the parts that hurt the most. Even when you're sat down you can still flex your feet to stretch the leather a bit.0
