Permanent post made redundant - and offered fixed term contract

Hi, I've done a search on this board and haven't found an answer to my question, so here I am, I hope someone can help.
My current (permanent) post is being made redundant as part of restructuring. There are new posts in the proposed structure one of which is fixed term (less than two years). My question is: If I were to be criteria matched to that fixed contract post, would I still be entitled to a redundancy payment at the end of my current permanent contract?
In my mind a fixed contract is worth considerably less than a permanent one, and at the end of the contract they could decide not to renew it and get rid of me without making any redundancy payment. So am I entitled to the payment at the point of change of contract?
Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
Thanks

Your employment would be continuous and therefore when the job eventually ends you would have acquired an extra year or two of employment to use in the calculation of your severance package.
You would not be entitled to severance pay if you move to the new post because your employment has not been severed.0 -
Hi, Thanks for your reply. Although my continuous service would have increased by almost two years at the end of this fixed term contract, would I still be eligible for a redundancy package at the end of the fixed term if my employer decided not to renew the contract?0

still check the contract carefully.0 -
Thanks for that. I'm afraid it doesn't make that much sense to me, but I think I see the bit you mean. Looks like I will need to get the contract looked at by someone if it comes to it.
Thanks again0
