My Nan, who died last year at 97 sadly, loved her food especially smoked salmon. I found a company that did a monthly delivery of smoked salmon and bought that for her at Christmas so that each month she had a little presie of her favourite.0

My nan is 90 and this year i have bought her a 'Dove' shower creme set, Not expensive but her favorite!
Also because she tends to get 'chesty' this time of year thru to feb/march i'm thinking of getting her some of that expensive honey (manuka? i think its called) She always has honey and lemon to drink if she has a cold or is a bit chesty, and i know she would never pay £13.99  for a jar of honey! (might get her the £8.99 pot instead..........:D )
If your grandad is anything like my nan, it's not what it costs, it's the thought that counts. My nan had 6 grandchildren (one died in Aug this year) and has NEVER had a christmas or birthday where she has got a pressie from each of them. It has always been myself and 2 sister's who have ALWAYS bought her something. My cousins tend not to buy as they say she has so much and what do you buy the lady that has everything? Well, we always find something, though for her birthday this year i gave her money and an ornamental teddy holding a cushion with 90 on it from my 2 children.

How about a copy of a newspaper from the day he was born. Or a the promise of treats for the year if you live near enough. Things like a home made cake for one month, plant or flowers for another, a ride out, take him out for a meal, even take away fish and chips. Make it a special year with something to look forward to each month.0

I'm in the process of making my grandad-in-law who has everything a Journal Jar ( http://www.organizedchristmas.com ). So far I have an A4 hardbacked notebook (£1.25 from a local bit shop) which I'm going to put a label on, a storage jar (£1.50 from Matalan), a pen out of a multi-pack and I'm going to make labels up with a selection of questions to ask him like games he used to play when growing up and stuff. It can then be a keepsake and passed on to his sons or grandchildren. He has really lovely calligraphy style writing as well so I can't wait to see his face and what he makes of the gift.
I'm hoping he'll let DD (his only great-granddaughter ATM) read it when she goes up to visit

Thanks for the ideas, it's great for me with my 79yo grandpa with enough money to buy anything he wants and enough beer to open an off-license with! Seriously, he buys about 15 bottles a week and drinks 7 . . . .
Think he might be getting a guardian from the day he was born!0 -
This year I've pinched all the home videos my parents have of me & my brother, and am putting them all onto DVD as well as creating an edit of all the best bits for my parents. I'm lucky as I have use of a tape deck and edit program, but perhaps this idea could be adapted?0
