Are cable companies still laying?

Hello, in my area there is no cable. For some reason ntl/virgin went to Bridgend, Swansea, Cardiff and Newport but missed out my town in the middle even though it has a population of 20,000 people. Has all cable ended thus forcing me to stick forever to the normal phone line? Many thanks.

Well the problem is when NTL went into Chapter 11 they stopped building any more networks, when they merged with TeleWorst & then ultimatly bought over by VM,they again didn't re-start the build,
Part of the reason was they got rid of the contractors who did the main donkey work & installed the cabs, ducting ext.
In fact,in the next town over from me,over half the town has had the cable infrastructure installed since 2003 ish but so far, apart from one or two business lines in the local shopping center, the are no homes ect connected to cable. In fact, half of the stuff in the street cabs has been dog robbed & re-used.
  • Hi im not sure about your area however someone came round yesterday and signed us up for virgin, the house we live in has nothing not even a bt box - he said it would be a 2 man job as they would have to lay the cable etc but hopefully having it installed in two weeks, have you tried ringing them? cant harm i guess

That's a standard install. The OP was talking about his whole area not being cabled, your area has cable so a 2 man crew will come out & pull a length of RG6 Drop cable, which contains the phone & coax in one & is called a 'Siamese' cable, from the street cabinet to your home, once there they will mount the services & connect it up.
His area doesn't even have cabinets to connect to.
