Cats insurance

Hi everyone,
I have two cats and they are both getting on a bit 10+ years.
Would an insurance company cover my cats, and is it worth it or is it a scam? Basically every ins I have ever had for anything never seems to pay out and I want to know whether its the same with pet ins!!!
Thanks

Yes they will cover you but will not cover any pre-existing conditions.
You also have to check what exactly is covered, some cover dental some don't, a lot cover an amount every year for the life of the policy, others cover just to a maximum amount (IIRC), I'm never great with these things!
Axa and Petplan are two of the best in terms of what they cover and the amounts they cover.0 -
i can highly recommend pet plan
my cat ruptured his achilles in november---paid out £2k plus direct to vet too!
but they dont insure pre-existing conditions so if your cats have arthritis already this will be exempt etc
soem only cover 1 year of a condition, some the life of the condition...your premium will be higher due to ages of catsand increased risk of illness etc, but i can honestly say petpal were brilliant!!even god cant change the past-no matter how many times i cryfor levi, leo, smudge and arfa:A my angels0 -
petplan will not cover cats over 10years of age on their cover for life policy, but they may consider it on their 12month policies.
What you have to decide with older cats is sometimes not always down to money but what you are willing to want to do for your pets. I know some poeple have all the finances avaliable to them but still choose not to treat extensive and prolonged medical and surgical conditions as they feel it would not be fair to their pet. Others wish to try everything and anything available. You have to decide what you would want to do if face with a situation.
I.e - Your cat gets a broken leg and this can be fixed but will cost £400+ and will take 6-12 weeks + to mend if no complications - in a fit cat
- your cat has a life long problem and requires £10 month treatment for life
or your cat requires £1000 of surgery + chemo for a cancer and might not survive
or has a simple complaint and it costs under £60 (i.e an amount under a claimiable excess!) and is fixed asap.
How much use would an insurance cover be for YOU? Would you use it? would you claim?
Excesses on older pets also increases with many having a flat rate plus a finial % of the total bill.
I think pet insurance is brilliant for those that otherwise would have to put their pet to sleep if they couldn't afford the treatment or the pet would suffer. However to get the best value for money and best cover you should start when they are young fit a health- as with our own health insurance!0 -
PetPlan is the way to go. DH is a vet and says that they are the only ones who consistently pay out as they should and you don't get to the end of your annual policy and find they refuse to continue paying out.
Doh! I didn't know the bit about them not insuring the same for cats over 10 years. Our 13 year old cat has always been with PetPlan so presumably that is why I didn't realise.0
