Starting the bankruptcy journey at last

  • If you have no trade creditors, it looks likely your bankruptcy will not be advertised.

You are wise to be prepared for the information to come out, but there's no guarantee it will.
  • sadly this is a decision Ive come to when all over avenues have failed..I have to face any potential consequences..
  • I've recently opened a Co-Op account over the phone. The only thing you have to watch out for is the questions. Sorry didn't mean that to sound ominous. Anyway what I mean is the people on the phones say I need to ask you a few questions to make sure the account is suitable. Clearly this is so they can flog you 'better' accounts. Just tell them you are going bankrupt and save you both some time.

Other than that it went well, found staff so far very helpful, and everything came quickly. I'm setup for online banking, its a bit basic, but as long as it works its ok. I believe with Barclays you can apply online, but don't quote me on that. I've opened other basic accounts online, which is fine, but I understand this would be closed as soon as I went bankrupt...
Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.
  • Oh and you've nothing to be ashamed of. Usually people who speak lightly of bankruptcy have never been within a mile of it. You have to do what's right for you, even if some idiots out there still think debtors prisons are a good idea.

Bankruptcies are only localy advertised now in exceptional circumstances, It is down to the OR's discretion, but there is a pressure on reducing costs. Some exampes of what exceptional circumstances might be are, perhaps a bridal shop or travel agents or other business where the business retains peoples 3rd party items for a time (such as a TV repair shop). Another example may be where the OR uncovers that the bankrupt has been commiting fraud in the local area and is not co-operative, anicdotaly i would expect that less than 1 or 2 % are advertised locally these days. As has also been said. The OR has a preset list of publications to choose from that cover certain juristictions regardless of whether they are the most popular or easy to get hold of papers, ie they just need to cover a cretain area, so even if published it may not be read by anyone you know
