Are these one and the same ?
Since I've never been pregnant I've not got a clue. Reason for asking is a male friend asked me and I couldn't answer.
Also wondered what you see on tv..is that close to being real regarding these things ?

I think people use the term baby scans in the same context as an ultrasound for antenatal care .
However you can have an ultrasound scan for other organs such as kidneys as well which is why the friend may be confused.2014 Target;

It depends on what stage of the pregnancy you are at and what type of scan you have. Usually a woman will have a 12 week scan and a 20 week scan and the images look like this usually http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3225/3121812958_6f3147b1e6_o.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.karencheng.com.au/category/pregnancy/page/2/&usg=__CJhWJKixJwgMBcZ8DbB-T04K_1M=&h=279&w=364&sz=23&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=5YiYcd3vVp73iM:&tbnh=170&tbnw=229&ei=cMVWTYqPAca2hAfLm6XJDA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dscan%2B12%2Bweek%2Bim%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1170%26bih%3D473%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=399&vpy=95&dur=50&hovh=196&hovw=256&tx=128&ty=142&oei=cMVWTYqPAca2hAfLm6XJDA&page=1&ndsp=9&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0
If you have a 4D scan (which you have to pay for privately) then the images are of a startling quality. This pic here is of a baby at 6 months and these are the ones you're most likely to have seen on TV I think
