This is not true - you can download direct to the kindle whenever you are in a wifi zone eg at home, wifi hotspot/cafe etc.
They also sell Kindles in Tesco, useful if you collect clubcard points.
Apologies OP.
buyitall, I looked on Tesco website last week and they didn't have any for sale. They did have e-readers but not an actual kindle. I suppose that may have changed since then of course0 -
We bought one from Tesco yesterday for £107 because i went through with shopping and got a £4 off anything over £30 . Also got double points as well.
The Kindle is easy peasy to set up .0 -
Don't have one and not planning on buying one. You might as well wait a little longer since this year, a lot of touch pads are going to be introduced and released. It's the age of touch screens.
E-readers are simply that - so why would you need a touch screen to read a book? Plus the multi-function (?coloured) screens are not suitable for reading books. The Kindle (and others) uses e-ink which is just like reading a dead tree book.
OP, if you go to the discussion forum on the Amazon Kindle page you will find that every question about the Kindle has been asked, and lots of help is available there. It's a very busy forum and you'll get lots of helpful information from Kindle owners.0 -

the £111 one means you have to have the kindle plugged into computer to download new books
wow thats such a massive hardship, once every couple of months spending 60 seconds copying over a few books
well worth spending the extra £40 :rotfl:0 -

You might mock, but it's horses for courses.
I've been surprised how many have bought a kindle that I wouldn't have thought would want one and of those who I know personally, most have gone for the 'better' version.
You might find that it doesn't appeal to you, but a lot of people do want it and are willing to pay for it. I don't think it's a matter of saving 60 seconds.
I was just trying to help the OP saying what (little) I know.:)0 -

we got 2 kindles and my daughter and fiancee have them as well
i got over 1000 books on mine now, works just like a memory pen and it really does take seconds to drag and drop books over, completely plug and play, no software to install and faster than 3G, going for the "better" version for kudos factor is just very sad imo
regardless thou we all love the kindle

I have the 3G one and always have it in my bag.
When I browse new books in an actual shop i can order then rather than writing down titles to order when I get home.
I had a subscription to a daily newspaper whilst on a cruise holiday and it was lovely to get the news downloaded to my Kindle to read with my breakfast!0 -
I've just posted this over in Freebies, dont know if it is any use to you:
If you go onto this site, up the top right there is a box for your email address and they email you when there are free kindle books available for download from Amazon. Ok, some books do look naff, but I have downloaded a few now and are reading books that previously I wouldn't have considered.

I have been registered with this site for about a month now and had no spam or anything untoward coming my way!
