Quidco - my experience

Hi,

I've read a lot of positive comments on here about people using Quidco so I thought I'd use it for my new car insurance. I knew they offer cash back for Admiral and also that Admiral were likely to be the cheapest so it looked like a win-win.

I went throught quidco and was initially redirected to the Admiral site where I got a quote for £580 which looked good. I had a closer look and saw they'd defaulted the quote to a 10 month policy (!) so I changed it to 12 months and the premium went up to £620, with a £350 excess.

Out of curiousity I tried GoCompare and it quoted £595 from Admiral with a £250 excess. I decided to go through GoCompare instead as the lower excess swung it for me.

So overall I wasn't hugely impressed with Quidco but I guess it's worth checking it out for insurance quotes. I think the 10 month policy thing could catch a few people out too.

Tammer

Hi, I recently went through Quidco to buy insurance from Admiral and my quote was for the full 12 months. I wonder if the 10 accelerator only kicks in on higher premiums or on younger drivers- its definately not across the board. !

I have found that Insurance through Quidco to be much more expensive than via a comparison website, even allowing for cashbacks. That's before the joyous experience of getting to the end of a tedious application for a particular insurer just for them to be stupidly expensive i.e. Aviva

I have never found any difference in quotes through Quidco, however even direct to the insurer have found different quotes at different times of the day. One insurer even said 'we've had a good day and hit our targets so we can drop further to get extra business for the rest of the day.'!!!

I didn't say that the prices are dearer than insurers direct websites but as a real live example, I did a home insurance quote via the comparison websites. For me, esure was the best for cover, price etc at about £250. On both Quidco and esure's direct site the cost was £340 (£45 cashback via Quidco)

Result was I was better off not going via Quidco and certainly not direct to esure

Home insurance for £250 !! What size house do you live in ?- I got full buildings and contents with accidental etc for £139 through Sainsburys with £70 cashback and £50 Sainsburys vouchers- net price £19. ( I was making the point - obviously not very well- that I have never found quotes through cashback sites to be any different to any other quotes-comparison sites included-sorry for not being precise.)

    my experience last 5 years
car and house insurance always paid out, some quicker than others

    yr 1 house insurance £2.16
    yr 2 house insurance £67
    yr3 house insurance £67
    yr4 house insurance £102

Yr 5 - expecting £102 cashback bringing it down to £98 BUT neither RAC or AXA have yet tracked (despite clearing cookies/generating new quote) so it looks like I maybe paying out for the good year 1 after all.

Not sure I'm going to rely on quidco next year - may have a look at something like Sainsburys.
