We've just set up a DMP, and as part of that, cancelled and transfered all DD's and SO's to a new bank account (Barclays) including the mortgage payments. because of the timing, the DD instruction didn't reach Barclays in time for the mortgage payments to be actioned, so I wasn't surprised to get a call asking me to make payment over the phone, which I did, for both accounts.
I've just logged on today, and found that the larger payment DD has arrived with Barclays, and been paid - so now we've made two payments to the mortgage account
Luckily, this will have come from the 'rainy day' part of the DMP (the stuff you need to put money by for, like house repairs, car repairs, car tax etc) so it's not left us pennyless, but still damn annoying.
If I phone them on Monday, what do you think are my chances of getting the money back.

Your post doesn't really make sense.
First you say: "because of the timing, the DD instruction didn't reach Barclays in time for the mortgage payments"
Then you say: "I've just logged on today, and found that the larger payment DD has arrived with Barclays, and been paid"
So did it arrive in time or didn't it?
Who phoned you up and asked you to make a mortgage payment?
Did Barclays make a payment on a DD mandate that it received after the specified date for this month and then pay it anyway?
Where do HSBC fit into all this?
Anyway, whatever, I would imagine you have a very good chance of getting the money transfered back. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Sorry, bit frustrated to say the least.
We have two mortgages, the payments for which apparently come out on different dates (which I wasn't aware of at the time, being caught on the hop by the phone call from HSBC), the DD for the first (smaller one) hadn't arrived at Barclays by the due date, hence the phone call from HSBC, and they asked me if I wanted to pay the second one at the same time..
I'm not sure when the second DD was received by Barclays, but it seems it has a different payment date. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

OK, so what probably happened was that the HSBC person saw that you had a second mortgage payment and, not realising that the DD for that would reach Barclays in time was just trying to be helpful.
I really doubt that you'll have any trouble getting your money returned. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Update: Just spoken to HSBC mortgages and they have agreed to refund one of the payments to the account it came from. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

So, are they still bastards? Or should the title now read "Once I'd actually spoken to HSBC, they were helpful and resolved my problem".
