British Gas - Huge DD jump ??
Comments
-
I give BG my reading each month.
They did put up my DD but I rang them up and simply asked them to put it down which they did right away.
These boards are great for advice but maybe some people are overlooking the obvious approach of a quick phone call to sort it out?0 -
Sorry, I did phone right away & the guy on the phone told me that the price freeze wasn't going into effect for another 3 months yet, and the increase was for current use & to pay off the debt.
I just thought it was high, it is the 1st big increase in 18 months, and there are only 2 of us living there !0 -
tripled wrote:It is entirely on the basis that British Gas do a full reassessment of your direct debit every 12 months. As a result, October 2005 would be the date of his first payment last year and he would have used £450 of electricity over the last 12 months. The automatic reasessments also always calculate based on 12 months, so this would be the repayment term. Consumption and tariff are irrelevant as calculations are based on the total cost of energy used. So I used the limited information provided and combined it with a set of standard criteria to work out the payments. If Chris was on a capped tariff which does not follow the pattern of price increases, or there are special circumstances around his reassesment, then further information would be needed.
Tripled,
Thanks for this; I assume you work for BG with your reference to ‘standard criteria’? – if not where do you get this standard criteria?
Have I got you reasoning correct?
OP used £450 worth of electricity(12 x £25 + £150 debt) That assumes that his account balance was zero and the meter reading(in Oct 2005 ) and end of period reading(in Oct 2006) were accurate(not estimated)
£450 is an average of £37.50. So presumably your tables(standard criteria?) calculate that in Oct 05 he would have been using £32 rising £42.70 in Oct 06?
On the assumption that there are no rises in price and the OP’s consumption remains the same, he should be paying £42.70 + £12.50 12 months to repay the debt for = £55.20.
However as the OP is not on a standard tariff, as you suggested, all of the above is academic!!:o0 -
i have a payment card which was for £7, I always paid £10 & was always in credit, I received a letter saying I owed £38, phoned BG up & was told my payment have jumped to £17 a week, currently I'm in credit.0
