Oh being indecisive that has put me in a pickle lol - shall I or shant I ??0

People normally don't use frying steak as braising steak as it is a much better quality meat and of course more expensive.. braising steak is of lower quality hence the long cooking period to tenderise it...
Frying Steak will work very well also it will just cost you more... but if cost is not an issue go right ahead it will be fine...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I got some (400g) braising steak on a good deal at my butchers yesterday. The only thing is, I don't know what to do with it! I know it should be cooked slowly but I dont have a slow cooker. I'm guessing I'd make a casserole or stew with it? I have some onions, a couple of carrots. No beef stock but do have chicken or vegetable. The only potatoes I've got are Maris Pipers which I think are baking potatoes??
Any help please?
ETA just checked store cupboard and I have got worcestershire sauce, some bisto beef gravy granules and some tinned mushrooms.0 -
Bung it all in a big pot and let it stew! Bulk it up with vegetables, and beans. Taste and add other ingredients/herbs/flavours/seasoning accordingly.
Bisto has Monosodium Glutamate (E621) in it, a food additive I try to avoid......0 -
I love braised beef, I brown the meat and fry the onions then you can put them in a big saucepan or a casserole, I add 5floz (6 if cooking on the hob) of beer but you can use beef stock or thin gravy; add a splash of Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper and just leave it to cook on a low heat (in the oven or on the hob) for 2 1/2 hours.
I serve it with mash, which your potatoes will be fine for, veg and yorkshire puddings.
Hope you enjoy it!0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. Would I cook it at about 160 or even lower temp?0

I've just filled up a stock pot with stewing steak, various veg and stock to cover and its now cooking away at 140 - thats in a fan oven though.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
