Just want to give it a try...and this seems a good price.
Edit: There are only 2 of us so don't need a large one.
I have this one and can even fit in a small/medium chicken, slighty sideways on, but still with room to add potatoes on the top for the last hour0 -
Absolutely Rchddap1 ,it doesn't need anything doing to it,in fact if you keep lifting the lid it can prolong the cooking time.Just let it get on with it.0

A very simple recipe, braising steak, bisto, an oxo cube, sliced carrot, a sliced onion and maybe a slug of red wine, very easy and very tasty!!!!

rchddap1 wrote:Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the info. Do people usually set it up and then just leave it to it? I leave the house at 7.30am and so no-one would be around to keep an eye on it (well...until 4pm anyway) . I assume that this is perfectly safe.
If I got a plug timer thingy would that automatically turn it on at the right time?
I left mine on all day from about 8am till 6pm on low and it was perfectly fine! I did the joint on saturday so I was around all day and did it on auto and it cooked in about 6 hours... it will be fine with/without the timer!0 -
Im trying to cook braising steak for the first time today, Ive out it in my slow cooker first thing with onions, a bay leaf and water and an oxo cube. The water doesnt quite cover the meat so some of it is drying out?? Do i need to add more water? I dont want to have to keep taking the lid off to move it all around because of the cooking time?
Also, should I add anything else? It looks really runny and not as dark as when my SIL cooks it.
Any help would be great
Emma

You should be ok with the liquid, ive never had it dry out before. If its a bit runny, you could always add some bisto or cornflour to thicken it up. The bisto would also make it darker. For taste, red wine, or i think you put in a post stout would both add a nice flavour.

Gravey browning will darken it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

i always cover mine well with water as we like lots of gravy
then when its nearly ready i add some gravy granules to thicken it or some cornflour mixed with a little cold water. yum yum

Well weve just polished the let off!! I think the gravy could of been a little tastier, i only added cornflower so maybe gravy granules are the way to go. However we LOVED it the meat just fell apart, melt in the mouth!!
Thanks everyone for your help
