Automatically connect to internet

Hi I recently bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 and Macafee preloaded. As I have never used a laptop before I also bought a Belkin router.

I had a few problems trying to connect the laptop to the internet with the router but it does seem to work now - however I need to manually connect to the internet each time I want to go online ie Control Panel and then connect to Internet. Is there an easy way for me to set it up to connect automatically by just clicking the browser?

I have tried to use the Diagnostic tool and it applies a fix by changing the computer from manually connect to automatically connect but as soon as I switch off the PC and switch it on again I need to connect manually again.

I have tried looking at Internet Options but the Always dial my default connection is grayed out. I think the problem is something to do with my Macafee settings but could be wrong?

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.

mcrapafee does this, can't remember exactly which part of the suite does it, but it's a pig. Also, it's virus-stopping capabilities are carp. use the removal tool here:-

and do yourself and your pc a favour and install avira antivir or avast from here:-

If you are using a router, the laptop doesn't dial (the router does the dialing instead) so the IE setting is correct

yes, I meant mcafee was generally a pain...had one guy once who had the same connectivity issues with it, and it turned out to be the (i think) the privacy module. Got him on something decent instead and no probs again :)

Is there anyway to change the settings of the privacy module of mcafee to fix the connectivity? My mom has the same issue but doesn't want to change from mcafee to a better antivirus which confuses the hell out of me. I don't get why she likes mcafee so much.

  • Thanks for the help people :) as I appear to have solved my problem although I am not quite sure what I did but I think it was when I reset some of my settings back to the default ones.
