I'm running 'Vista Home Premium' 2007. AMD 3.00 GB
I use 'Firefox' as a browser and regularly run 'spybot' and 'Avast Pro'
I've never had a screen freeze on me before (I was playing 'FreeCell' at the time) screen was green and would not let me access 'Task Manager' Ctrl-Alt Delete, my grand daughter said it happened to her earlier as she was accessing 'Youtube'
I've ran all the virus checkers all appears to be okay? Could it be my ISP I'm with 'Virgin'?
Only way I could get it to restart was to pull plug out!
Screen message said 'start windows in normal mode' (I think)
Any advice greatly appreciated. Omnipeta.

Sounds like it could be your graphics card/chip
First things first before looking at hardware -
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
By the way, Avast pro isnt a good idea (its firewall its very poor, youd be safer using windows firewall):idea:0

I had the same thing happened to me. Brought it to technicians who said that my graphics card got fried so had to replace that. Maybe the same fix would apply to you as well.0
