Not renewing car insurance and applying as "new customer" a day later

Quick question for the money savers out there...
Just got my car insurance renewal through and it's £993! This is from Aviva. I've got 9 points on my licence (all from 2008), but still, it's gone up £150 from last year.
I've done all the comparison sites and looks like I could get it down to £868 (plus £35 cashback with quidco) with Admiral. I am about to try Aviva (my current provider) as a new customer to see what it comes up with as they are supposed to offer great deals to new customers. My question is this:
If I cancelled and let it lapse, then went a day without insurance and signed up online, would I be classed as a new customer?
Thanks

Hi, when you try a new quote as a new customer you are automatically given an introductory discount. The only possible problem that could arise is that when they ask for proof of your NCB/renewal letter they will know what you are up to. You may get away with it, but if they pick up on it then by that time you will be out of the 'cooling off' period and if they requote and you cancel there might be cancellation charges.0

When you attempt to get an online aviva quote when you are already with them they won't play ball!0

Funny, I did this last year with my fathers car insurance, and it worked out fine, and we got our Quidco. We had to re-register for the online insurance administration.
They also didn;t ask for any further proof of no claims.
We've done the same for the past two years with my parents Greenflag cover also.
Just our experience, not a recommendation one way or the other. My farts hospitalize small children

Maybe using the quidco link gets round the issue??
Usually when you put in your details (and you already hold a policy with them) you get a message along the lines of "we see you already have a policy with us, please ring xxxxxxx to get help over your quote".0 -
When I had my renewal last year from privilige ,I wen't online on the privilige website ,did a new quote which came in £75 cheaper than the renewal
Rang them and explained and they matched the online quote :beer:0
