What's it about?
If you're a regular forum user, either on the MoneySavingExpert.com forum or elsewhere, and love the quirkyness of having your own avatar you'll know the size of your picture is often limited by the forum you're using. (For those new to forums, an avatar is the picture underneath your username). For example here we limit the size to a maximum of 80 x 80. Yet there's a way to create your own avatar and resize it for free.
How to get your avatar
First use a nifty site called mypictr that lets you create your own avatar for free from your own photos/images and then resizes it for you. Browse to find the photo you'd like to upload then click "upload". Click "choose" from the drop-down menu in step 2 and enter the maximum size you're allowed for the forum you'll be using it on. Then click the "pictrit" button to create your picture.
You'll be given the option of either downloading your picture or having it sent to you via email. For more help with making an avatar read MoneySaver sra's Avatar help discussion thread.
Turning it into a link you can use
Once you have it saved you'll need somewhere to host your picture so that you have a web link to it. There's a host of free hosting sites out there (pun intended!) but popular ones include photobucket (you need to register to use it) and imageshack (there's no need to register).
