Hi, I wonder if you lovely people can help me. Me and my husband have had a with profits standard life policy since 1993 it was supporting a small mortgage at the time. We moved house in 1999 and converted our mortgage from endowment to repayment. This policy now is just life cover and a savings plan which we pay 50.00 a month into. We have decided to cash in because the policy isn't making much and approached Standard life first for a surrender amount. No problem. However, having read some posts on this site I then approached APMM to see if they could sell it on my behalf.
I have been advised that there is not a market for unitised with profits policy's and they would be unable to help me. Please could someone explain to me the difference between With profits and unitised with profits and if any one knows of a reputable company that would be happy to buy this policy from me.
Regards

conventional with profits have a guaranteed sum assured that is paid regardless of peformance upon maturity. If you surrender before maturity, that sum assured is reduced/removed.
Unitised with profits plans are actually better value and give a closer performance to that of the underlying funds. Often, it is also possible to switch into other unit linked funds as well or in place of unitised with profits. Because unit linked/unitised with profits plans have a daily value, there is no reason for anyone to pay over the odds for them.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
