would saving up some money affect my benefits??

I'm not sure on this one.

I receive income support, carer's allowance, CTC, CB, DLA (for my son), and housing benefit.

I am planning on trying to save some money up for a car but my sister said saving up can affect my benefits and she thought I would only be able to save a certain amount before my benefits are stopped. Is she right? and if she is how much am I allowed to save??

It's not like I can save thousands anyway on my income :rotfl::o
but it makes sense to have a little saved up if I can. :)
It is only a bargain if you need it!

  • savings below £6000 have NO effect on means tested benefits, between 6,000 and 16,000 you lose £1 of benefits for every £250 of savings and over 16,000 means tested benefits stop
  • Thanks that's put my mind at rest, and sorry I am only just replying, couldn't find thread!
