Don't touch tune up utilities

I downloaded a trial of Tune up utilities -As soon as I started a scan my pc restarted and when it came back on I had the Classic desktop and was only able to change back by doing a System Restore.

I've been using it for 3-4 years & never had a problem, sorry you had a problem but it's a gr8 program.

It has a 'registry cleaner' as part of it. ANY registry cleaner can make a mess of things (you can count yourself lucky it was fixable)

That's one (of the many) parts of TU I don't use, but some of the elements are good, up to TU2008, which I still use parts of on occasion. I have noticed though, that since the 2008 version, it tries to do more by giving the user less control over which elements it wants to run.

I have a license key for the full 2008 version if anyone wants it. Is legit, was given away free by PCPro or Computer Shopper last year.

Microsoft's own tweaking screen does this, ( but doesn't work in reverse.)

control panel, system, settings, visual effects, adjust for best performance

I didn't get as far as being able to use ''undo'' - everything shut down as soon as i touched the scan button - then i had to do a system restore - after all that i couldn't wait to uninstall it - which was difficult because i couldn't find an uninstall icon and it did not appear on my add/remove programs.

I had to go into program files and delete everything. nightmare!!
