My car insurance is due for renewal in the next 4 weeks.
I've got a Peugeot 307 D Turbo (sort of sport version) with lexus lights & ive just had a chrome grill fitted... im wondering, do i have to tell my insurance company?? as I dont class it as a modification but hopefully one of u can tell me!! - when i got the lights I never told insurance simply because the can come with the car from new at a cost obviously.
Does anyone know of any cheap young driver insurance companies? (we're both 21)
Hope someone has advise!!
Thanks in advance

Even optional extras installed at the time of purchase has to be declared and failing to do so can invalidate your insurance.
Both items need to be declared but as neither affect the performance of the vehicle they shouldnt have the greatest impact on your insurance other than the fact they change the value of the car.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Looking at a list of what insurance companies define as a modification is quite surprising. The ABI produce a list which some insurer choose to stick to. Others add modifications on.
Both items you've mentioned (upgraded lights and fitting a grill) are considered a modification to your vehicle.
Astaroth is correct in that you could invalidate your insurance by not declaring them. At the very best, if you need to make a claim, your insurance company would not cover you for the cost of the modifications as they were not aware of them.
Either way, it is best to tell your insurer.
It isn't that sensible to modify your vehicle if you're keen to keep your premiums low - this is especially compounded by your age.
I'd suggest using a few of the comparison sites to see who commonly comes up for your profile. You may also want to do some Google search for insurance providers who specialise in young drivers with modified cars. That way you may find a small entity who can give you a good quote who may not have come up on the radar or the comparison sites. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers0
