Royal wedding street party insurance

Ok, so we're planning a street party for the royal wedding (not exactly interested in the roayls but always keen on a knees up)
The local council have said the following:
So do you think a) we should get insurance - the language is only "it is suggested"
b) that £56 is a good deal?
we may or may not have a bouncey castle, and a few egg and spoon races, but not a lot else.
thanks
Richard
The local council have said the following:
"Q. Do we need insurance cover?
A. Organisers should be aware that they incur certain legal liabilities and it is suggested that organisers should effect a policy of public liability insurance for an indemnity limit of £5m. This is the sole responsibility of the organisers and unfortunately the Council cannot be of assistance in this respect. If you do choose to get public liability insurance, you can find out about one-off event insurance here or by calling 0800 515 980"So do you think a) we should get insurance - the language is only "it is suggested"
b) that £56 is a good deal?
we may or may not have a bouncey castle, and a few egg and spoon races, but not a lot else.

If you get a bouncy castle then make sure you get a reputable operator and that he/she has insurance.
We had one outside in our street (with a slide down one side).
The castle was left unattended and not tied down properly.
When there were too many children on the slide (there were 8 and only mean to be 2 at a time) it tipped over and threw some children to the ground, unfortunately there was a downward slope so they had further to fall.
I don't believe any of the children got compensated for their injuries as I think there was no insurance.
Also consider having it attended by an adult (or not having one at all).
Sorry if that's off topic but as several children were injured I thought it was important to relay the experience.0 -
It is important to only use a reputable bouncy castle supplier, and ensure that they set it up, run it and take it down, not you. CHeck that they have their own insurance - ask to see it, although just because they have cover doesn't mean you can never be held liable, so buy street party insurance as well.
If you want decent quality insurance for the street party, choose a quality supplier like Event Assured - go to web site: street-party-insurance.co.uk - they are offering insurance with better cover from £45. It's the small print that matters!0 -
Seems a small price to pay for peace of mind remember it is public liability insurance and anything can happen on the day.
Well advised to insure.0 -
I'd say I'd pay for the street party insurance. Small price as someone else said in this sue happy culture and no matter how friendly you are with neighbours when the chips are down greed gets the better of people these days and they sue at the drop of a hat.
If you want additional entertainment pay for reputable entertainers who do have their own insurance and that will keep your costs on your insurance down.
We face paint and balloon model at events and I've found more and more people are paying for entertainers that have insurance to take the load of themselves. If you're not behind our soldiers.....please feel free to stand in front of them!0 -
What I’d really like is an insurance policy that will pay for me to go somewhere warm if some clown decides to hold a party in my street
Bah humbug0
