ESA and mortgage interest help

h ope i'm on the right forum. my sister has worked non stop for 40 years but struggled over the past year with COPD and has been off sick this past year.company no longer pays her so she went to CAB for help and they've been fantastic with help on benefits. she has been awarded ESA and disability benefit,and applied for mortgage interest help as at her age she does'nt want to lose her house. shes' had a letter back this morning saying from what we can gather that she is getting help with mortgage interest but it is coming off her ESA the M.I is more than the ESA so it says she will not have any money coming in from them. Can anyone help with advice as she is worried sick how she will manage.

It's a common theme on this board that the DWP award letters about mortgage interest are very misleading.

The help with the mortgage is extra money. But in most cases, the DWP pays the mortgage interest directly to the lender every four weeks in arrears. So it shouldn't affect the amount your sister gets in her hand, that should stay the same. Unfortunately the letters can be very confusing.
