The mobile platform Market is extremely competitive, be cautious about buying apple shares even for the short term as consumers will switch at the drop of a hat to get the latest piece of tech.

Look back to how Nokia was knocked off it's global dominant position because it failed to keep up and diversify in the market.

If Nokia and Microsoft can come up with an innovative product then watch this space.

How easy is it for the biggest company in the world to double in size?

I've often looked at Apple's share price and held off investing for a similar sentiment. But having been a lonely Apple user since the early '90s I now look around me and most of my friends and family are now Apple users of some form or other. If this is extrapolated across other families worldwide the growth potential is huge.

I then look at the way they keep creating new markets; recently I've bought a lot of books from the iTunes store. This is a new revenue stream and could grow exponentially if managed properly.

Then the App Store is invigorating the OS X environment and as Apple famously takes a handsome cut no doubt is turning OS X into a nice little profit centre.

Furthermore it turns out 70% of iPad 2 purchasers are completely new to the brand. This is a whole new customer base - and Apple are famous for keeping their customers.

I don't know. My gut feeling is there is much more growth to come.

Although i may agree with the sentiment of the answers given, this is not an investment advice BB. The question was 'where can i buy these shares', so lets hope that he received a positive enough answers in the form of TDW/III etc

Apple is not a company. It's no longer even a brand. For many who want the best NOW, it is a way of life.
They'll grow out of it. Always interesting how every new generation thinks their tastes will live forever. One of the few things that doesn't change.

It amazes me that anyone on a MoneySaving forum owns anything that is Apple.

They are the most overpriced, moneygrabbing company I've come across. They don't even pay dividends, don't give a crap about shareholders, and I wouldn't invest in them in a million years.

My laptop is more powerful than a macbook pro and it cost half the price. All you're paying for is a white casing, at least designer clothes feel good and last a long time, Apple are the 'designer' electronics brand but that have crappy software and hardware.
Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Quite happy to recommend Interactive Investor for making small investments. £15 flat fee for US shares.

I would agree with others though, that perhaps a Technology Fund might be a better bet? It will give you some diversification, but the satisfaction that you do at least own a little bit of Apple if you are a fan of their products.

If there is one thing Apple has shown us over the years, it is that they are one of the few companies in their world whose prices are truly price inelastic.
Hmmmmm not sure I agree with this. Hasn't the iPhone been knocked off top spot recently because there are cheaper android handsets available?
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
