cleaning my cooker

I had my cooker cleaned a couple of years ago and the guy used a powerful chemical that he painted on ( like a gel), and after a while it just wiped off. Now I know I shouldn't really use chemicals, but I have tried steam cleaning the cooker and it works but takes a long time and is still hard work. Does anyone know where I can get the same type of gel that the cooker guy used?
