Could the two reps please give some guidance regarding the application of the Confidence Code. The situation referred to is contained in the following thread and concerns Eon's disallowance of discounts for final bills.

Many thanks.

There are two main questions which have arisen on the associated thread.

    1. Why isn't more or high prominence given on the Comparison Websites to the fact that Eon disallow discounts on final bills? It would appear to be a key feature of the product detail.

    2. Why doesn't clause 7.1.1 of the Confidence Code apply?

    7.1 Calculation assumptions

7.1.1 The factors that a service provider uses to base its calculations on should not include:

    Hi,

I'm not an expert on the Confidence Code, but I've had a look at the thread and will go and talk it through with a colleague who is :)

  • Hi

As for E-on not applying discounts on their final bill, it is not something we have included on our site before as all comparisons are based on twelve months usage and assume that the customer will stay with that supplier for twelve months. It would be very hard for us to include any loss of discount on a final bill if we do not know if and when that final bill would be raised.

The Confidence Code was drawn up to be applied to a year’s worth of usage and include the unit rates and discounts that are relevant during this time. The loss of discounts within that year is not generally a part of the price comparison as most people do stay with the supplier for over one year, however we can see that the loss of discounts on the final bill may be a cause of concern to customers. We are in the process of updating the tariff information on our site to include the information about E-on not including discounts on their final bill, thanks to your feedback, these changes should be able to be seen in the next few hours. Hopefully this will make things clearer for customers in the future.

    1. So why include exit fees in the description? ;)

    2. Excellent!

This is all old hat and was discussed here as long as 3 years ago when eon altered their ts + cs regarding discounts being taken away on final bills! So why the fuss now?

Probably because unlike you (and I) backfoot actually backs up his moans with actions. He puts the vast majority of us to shame as he's prepared to do something about it instead of what we tend to do - moan on here all the time. That thread you started is full of people moaning but not one poster states they are going to do anything about it.
  • Hi

    First of all to Millicentbystander,

1, Exit fees are mentioned on all suppliers/tariffs that have them as requested by the Confidence Code, the E-on "no discount on final bill" is unique to E-on and as such isnt covered by a particular Confidence Code ruling, hence (previously) not being listed on Energyhelpline.

    2, Thankyou, we do try!

    Premier,

Please can you give an example of the discount being incorrect as I have just checked by running several comparisons through the calculator and the discount is showing at £65 for QDD, it may be a regional thing though so if it is still showing incorrect for any comparisons you run please let us know and we will look into it.

Don't forget it only affects those not on fixed term contracts.

Those in fixed terms will still get the discounts of that particular contract even on a final bill as long as they complete the fixed term.

  • Yes, like everyone is going to be able to time it so that the switch away happens on exactly the same day as the fix ends. Of course, start the switch away too early and you will get the 'official' exit fee added to the final bill as well.

    Hi,

I have much the same response as the rep from energyhelpline! Our comparisons (and the Confidence Code regulations) are based on staying with a tariff for a year. I can see why not including things like this in the estimated bill can be frustrating for some people though.

We do publish the full terms and conditions for all tariffs on our site though, and customers can see these before they switch.
