Travel to interview money

If you have £100 coming in every fortnight, and £100 going out every fortnight, and you have no income, how have you managed to save 500 quids' worth of dole money?
Why not simply assume that it's a nest egg built up prior to JSA?!
What concerns me is that the OP will get through her savings very quickly because her outgoings are greater than her income because of an unserviceable debt. That's the main issue here.0 -
im not sure why you think you should be eligable for the cost of travel??? you know you had 500 in the bank. unlesss your planning on flying to spain and back for your interview then im sure it wouldnt have hurt to take the fare from your savings, which i would hope you have informed the JC about.MoneySpendingExpert0

I have claimed twice, and got train fare. It is for broke people only tbh, I know you have been frugal, but the money is to help those with no other money coming in.
The main issue is getting paid after the train, etc. I paid out £70 to get to the companies headquarters, there was no public transport available. I am unable to claim that back and has to come out of jsa.0 -
I got about £700 paid in fares for interviews (probably more, as it was around £120 each time, sometimes less depending upon the time of day, and I went for about 6 interviews). This was from June 2009 to February 2010.
Interviews between up north and London. Never had an issue, and they never asked to see my bank accounts to see how much money I had.
When I first went, they told me "You can get about 10 interviews paid for". When I queried this later as I started getting towards 10 interviews they shrugged their shoulders as if to say there wasn't a limit.
I'm surprised I was allowed that much reading this, has there been a recent change? Or does it vary that much from job centre to job centre? And one of the interviews did finally pay off for me, I had to travel to get a job.
[Edit] I was totally skint after being on carers allowance and running up debts... I'm not sure if job centres look at things like this, it was originally in my records until someone reviewed it at a 6mths review. I just didn't think they looked at personal circumstances, if you were getting JSA.0 -
They just asked me, but never asked for any evidence. However it is a local discretionary fund so may depend on the manager and number of claimants.0

Where I work
TIS applications always need to be made in advance, they can not be made after attendance at an interview.
Proof of interview location must be presented, an e-mail is acceptable.
An adviser will check that the TIS application meets certain criteria and would either allow or disallow the application. A letter is then issued to the customer informing them of the decision.
After the interview has taken place an adviser will contact the employer to check that the customer attended the interview and that the employer did not reimburse any travel costs.
The travel costs would then be calculated, both by private vehicle and public transport (25p per mile) with the cheapest of the two being used to reimburse travel costs. I always use my discretion here as if someone does not have access to a private vehicle I would always pay the cost for public transport.
Proof of savings etc is not required, nor is it mentioned on any forms that I need to complete for a TIS application.
Very rarely is a travel warrant issued prior to an interview taking place however it is an option.
TIS payments should be made within 5 days of the interview taking place (this is a local guideline probably not national policy).0 -
If you are turned down, you are entitled to an explanation of the reason. Ask for a written explanation. If you dont agree you can appeal to the jC manager. Generally the interviw would be outside the local travel area, and you must claim before you go if possible. You can ask for a travel warrant if you can't afford the cost of travel, and can also claim for an overnight stay if its too far to go in one day.0
