Resigning due to work related stress...

Hi,
I am resigning today due to work related stress. I have been absent from work for around 4 months because of it and have been frantically looking for another job for months but no luck.
If I am a stay at home mum for a few months would I be able to claim tax credits for my hubbys wage?
He works full time and earns about £19000 before tax, we have one child aged two.
I know there are changes from April will they effect us? I know they are going to effect some one earner families.
Thanks in advance for any help.
