I take it this is a scam?

I am convinced that this is a scam but I am not sure what it is. Can anybody shed any light on how this would work.

I am selling a mobile phone on Ebay and I have just received this question.

Hello seller i am intrested in buying this item to my store in africa and i will want you to wrap gift it very well and i will be making payment of £120 for the item including the shipping via Fedex or Dhl and i will be making the payment right away via Western Union Auction Payment(https://www.BidPay.com).okay and i will like to tell you that the item is very urgently needed in my store in africa and i will like you to ship it out as soon as my payment has been Confirmed and Approved from Western Union Auction Payment(https://www.BidPay.com). payment for the shipping cost together with the item's price okay. you will help me to ship it out. via FEDEX or Dhl. pls if you agreed with this send me your address and fullname for the payment today so that you can ship it out on monday when the payment is Approved from (BidPay) okay..........GET BACK TO ME ASAP.

The person has a 0 feedback and is no longer a registered user. I have put them on my blocked list. I state on my listings that I only sell to the UK as I had problems dealing with an overseas buyer before, but they are down as a UK user.

Thanks

Alison

Well as the person has been kicked off eBay who knows what he's been up to!

Mind you, i've paid for goods using Bidpay before without any problems....

lol! yup its got a big SCAM all over it! :D
  • I crave this kind of scammer :p

Should you get any more of them, let them think you're happy to proceed, on the basis that they will pay for a courier to collect the goods off you. Then get a house brick or two, wrap them in cardboard and put a lovely gift tag on the front!

Seller pays the courier when it arrives his end and opens up a nice little surprise. :D

Although it does cost you the price of 2 bricks!!

(OK, I don't really suggest you all do this, but it's the thought that counts)

Thanks. I did think it was some kind of scam. If they happen to bid on my item at the end, can I retract their bid?

I like the idea of the bricks. LOL.

I like the bricks idea too! Yep, you can cancel ther bids an block them from your auctions.

In 'Help' search 'Cancelling bids' and the relevant links will come up.

My hsemate had a similar email when she listed here laptop and portable DVD player. Soem crap about offering her £120 (again) for each as it was for some kids b'day in Nigeria.

Considering we're both Nigerian, we took great pleasure in telling them to 'eff off' and that we knew exactly how 'reliable' the postal service in Nigeria was and what the criteria of being a '419-er' was too.

Never heard from them again! ****s!

If they're no longer a registered user how will they be able to bid on the item anyway?

not a newbie now: but still be gentle with me ;)

The way the scam works is this:

    1. Buyer pays via Western Union. Money appears to have cleared into your account.
    2. You send the item, having seen what appear to be cleared funds in your account.
    3. Buyer receives item and disappears.
    4. Your bank identifies the money as fraudulent and claws it back from your account.

    Result:
    No phone
    No money
Nigerian bloke has a nice phone
