Halifax Bond

I've got a 2 year Halifax fixed rate bond that matures this month and they have sent a letter with lots of options to invest further with them. As they offer quite bad rates I want a cheque that I can invest elsewhere.

Can I go into the branch on the day the bond matures, with id, and ask for a cheque or should I write to head office? I cant see anywhere on the form which tells you what to do if you just want your money

  • Well what a surprise .

I would write to HO saying that you want a cheque, and saying that you would like to collect it from X branch on Y day (being the maturity date).

Good offers at the moment still incude the Coventry Fixed Rate 5.8% e-Bond (until Jan 2008) but obviously the situation may change before you get your money.

Halifax are currently leading the way with longer term fixed rate accounts, however. They are top in the 4 and 5 year categories among well know institutions with 5.6% & 5.58% respectively.

With a long term fixed rate you could strike it lucky, or not. I haven't got a crystal ball, unfortunately.
