Engagement Rings in Belfast - Joseph Rea Jewellers ?

Hi everyone,

I am shopping for an engagement ring and have been looking at Joseph Rea jewellers. Does anyone have any experience of buyng engagement rings here ? I've heard mixed reports and am thoroughly torn between saving money there or paying more at Lunn's ! Has anyone any experiences or comments re Joseph Rea ? Thank-you for your help and suggestions !

  • I've bought all my wifes jewellry (ie engagement ring, wedding reing and eternity ring) from Joseph Reas and have never been disapointed!

I seen the ring i wanted in Joseph Reas and went in and asked for the exact same spec in Lunns and the difference in price was unbelievable (and Lunns didnt even have the same clarity for its diamonds).

Saying that though I have never heard any bad reports about Joseph Reas!

Me neither. What bad stories had you heard OP?

I have always been really pleased with them.

My engagement ring and both our wedding rings came from Joseph Rea many years ago, and they still look good to us!

The snooty attitude in Lunns was so intimidating that we barely made it past the door, they gave us that whole 'nothing in here that you could afford!' vibe. In Joseph Reas, the lovely lady brought us ring after ring to look at, some very expensive, some much cheaper (we were very young when we married, and the budget was tight). I had my heart set on a particular style, and the lady took one look at my hands and colouring and immediately said 'sorry dear, but I don't think that would really suit you, have you thought about........'. She let us try the one we had thought we wanted, then the ones she recommended and she was 100% right, the one I wanted didn't suit me at all. But here's the catch, the style she recommended was actually cheaper than the one I liked, so she saved us some money when she could easily have just pushed the more expensive stuff on us. So I'd give Joseph Reas a big :money:. Although thats a long time ago, I'm sure that lady is long since retired!

Bought both my wives rings there:rotfl:Icluding wedding and eternity rings. What i'm worried about is, do i have to spend eternity with both of them? Yes rings seem good.
  • If you don't mind the drive, cahoons in cookstown are well worth the visit. I found them attentive and reasonably priced. They have a great range of beautiful diamond engagement rings.

Joseph Reas are very good with customers and have a huge selection in all price ranges. I agree that Lunns has a certain snobbery about it and really its gold and diamonds - same standard of metal and diamond can be bought in both shops but with different price tags.

i used goldsmiths, they were great! and have a good repayments plan as well so i was well pleased! no interest either!

but anyone i know who used joseph rea has had only good things to say!
  • We got my engagement ring a few years back from GEMS and to be MSE the carat to ££s was great value so I would advise checking them out as well. At the time (7 years ago) they said the reason the price was so good was because they bought their own diamonds in themselves. We looked round all the big places in Belfast and as other posters have said above, my feelings are that all you are paying for is the sucking up aspect.
  • i bought my ring from Lunns and have to say i was really really disappointed with the service i received-especially when it came to picking up my ring for the first time -would never recommend Lunns to anyone

as far as i can tell, all of the gems that used to be in shopping centres near me have closed down, very much "all of a sudden" actually, so i would steer very well clear of them even if you can find them, must be in some sort of trouble financially!
