My pc seems to take an age to start up and despite trying to stop things running on startup using ccleaner I can't seem to speed it up.

Here is a HijackThis log I've just run - please can someone tell me which things I can get rid of? (I notice a few Spybot entries which I don't think should be there - I have it installed but supposedly only using it on demand and not running in the background):

    follow the rest of the guide, you can skip step 3 for now, as it takes a while - 1st task - uninstall mse and switch to avast 5 free

    I think I've done as suggested except leaving VPOP3 alone as this is something we use.

    I've tried disabling Googleupdate but it still seems to appear in Task Manager and the HijackThis log - where and how do I stop it running? I thought I'd stopped ctfmon too but that still appears - how do I get rid of that one?

    messenger isn't actually running so you can leave it.

    activesync is to sync pda's etc, you can disable it from startup, and run it manually if you need it.

    fix these using ccleaner or autoruns

    I think I did everything in the guide (including cleanmem) except step 3 as I'm fairly sure the machine is clean. It seems to be a little quicker but maybe I'm expecting too much.

    I've disabled activesync in ccleaner but ctfmon doesn't appear. Can I tick the entries in HijackThis or doesn't it work like that?

    Autoruns "everything" comes up with a ton of stuff - which tab do I look under? Can't see ctfmon under the logon tab.

    Sorry I missed the bit saying to make minimonitor run. I've set that up now. I'll reboot the machine and see how long it takes. Will report back shortly.

    Worthwhile doing a full scan with malwarebytes and kaspersky http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/AVPTool/ to make sure nothing is lurking, it should be quite fast by now, only extras I can see are apple/bonjour/vpop related and nvidia
