There is always the exception to the rule, and we are all guilty of generalising, I should have said most accounts, but maybe they are now coming into the 21st century and moving away from requiring a cheque.

    .

It's really just a minority of accounts that require a cheque to open them.
So you should be saying "some".

I wouldn't even say that it's most accounts.

But these providers' options will be simple once cheques are abolished:

    1) Find another means of accepting the opening deposit; or
    2) Stop opening new accounts.

    I can't see many places choosing (2)...

I agree, but I am still unsure if cheques WILL disappear, ( who trusts the banks?), as nothing is set in stone, banks chop and change all the time, and as has been posted on this thread, (and others of a similar ilk), there are lots of problems associated with their abolition.

That would still be wrong. Tell me an account where they won't accept your initial deposit by cash or an FPS/BACS/CHAPS payment from an existing account. After all, lots of people don't have chequebooks any more.

    AA Savings

    ING Savings

    Saga

    Birmingham Midshires

    There's probably more.

But they are in the minority.

... and three of those are in fact just brand names of BM.

I know! But NFH did ask for names of accounts that needed cheques as initial deposits.
So it's probably only two organisations who require cheques to open accounts. Unless anyone knows of more?
