Broadband help - local access only

My friend is using her laptop with talktalk and whilst happily surfing the internet the connection suddenly stops and message pops up saying that "local connection only' . The ADSL light on the modem flashes madly, and when we look at the 192.168.1.1 all her settings had been changed. We then have to reset all the settings and wait ages until we can get connected again. This can happen 5 times a day! Any suggestions would be grateful, she uses mcAfee anti-virus and we cant seem to pinpoint the problem.

do a hard reset on the router and start again....you'll need to find the pin-hole that the reset button is recessed behind, and press it with a pin for 10 secs, then re-enter your ISP details and set up your wifi again :) If it still does it after that, the router's probably on the way out

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Check also that she has the router set up with a WPA pass key. If it's an unsecured connection then any nearby neighbours could be logging into the router and changing the settings. The above solution is more likely but just thought I'd mention it.
