Damp in the bay window

We have a bay window with a window seat in it that has cupboard doors on it for storage. Recently we discovered that mold had grown on some of the things in it. We have since discovered that the foam cushion on the seat is soaking wet.

My theory is that the very thick curtains that Mrs T recently made have left the bay very cold while the lounge is warm, and as a result the moist air is condensing on the bay walls. This is the first time we have had this problem in 4 years of living here, though this is the first winter with the new curtains.

I have bought a silica gel thing to try and absorb the moisture in the cupboard but am not sure what I can do about the rest of the bay. Any ideas?

I suspect the cause is too much moisture in the air from having no extractors in the kitchen/bathrooms. Now it has warmed up we have tried to open the windows a lot more to try and vent the house.
