High resistance line fault, or the house phone is faulty.
The exchange only supplies dialling tone when your phone goes off-hook. The exchange recognises this by your phone going from high to low resistance. If there's a high resistance fault on the line the exchange can't tell you've gone off-hook and won't send dialling tone.
Try a known working phone in the master socket and then ask BT for an online fault check.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I have the same issue, internet works fine but cant use a phone. Have run the online line test and BT say the fault is in my house so need to run all the troubleshooting options which I will be doing,
are there any other issues I need to check ?0 -
Also in the exchange, your broadband is on a separate circuit depending on your IPS than the phone, which is why if your phone is cut off,the broadband may work for some time after.0
