Hi, A friend was telling me today that with effect from 2nd March EDF will discontinue the 2 tier tariff for the standard rates. Instead they're replacing them with 1 rate for all KWH and including a daily charge for both gas and electricity. My friend wasn't sure about this and I was only aware of the increase in rate only. Can someone please confirm what is actually going to happen. If the new rates have been published, where can I find them as I went on the EDF website but I can only find the current ones.

  • Yeah this is correct.

    press release;

    "Following customer feedback that tariffs with band A band B unit rates are confusing, we have decided to simplify the way we bill you, and have therefore restructured our tariffs to remove the band A band B pricing. All customers will now pay a standard unit rate for all energy consumed, plus a small standing charge per day.
    Your unit rate and standing charge will be shown as a separate lines on your bill showing the standing charge value for the period of the bill."

    Hope this helps.:)
  • and the rates havent been publised yet. sorry missed that bit!

    Thank you Energy99 - welcome to the forum. Thought I'd be the first one to express my thanks for your quick reply.

    EDF had 2 tier rates for several years - I just don't believe that the reason they're abolishing them is because customers found them confusing. What a load of b******T. This sounds to me like EDF are pulling a fast one. What a con!!!

    Well I tend to disagree. Why else would EDF discontue the 2 tier system? Surely not because customers have said that they find it confusing - it's been like that for several years and personally, I did not find it confusing. Since when has EDF been listening to customers? I think this is nothing more than increasing the amount we are charged yet claiming that the rate has gone up by a lesser amount. Yes it is a con by any standarda and I'm very disappointed with EDF.

    It would have been fun to be a fly on the wall and witness the bollocking that must have been given to the whiz-kid who suggested the structure of their Online Saver 5* tariff. They sure have withdrawn from accommodating that sector completely now.

    Linda, just because the new tariff does not suit you does not make it a con. It is a perfectly reasonable (and standard) way of structuring a tariff.

    * Or whatever it was the one I am thinking of was actually named.
  • EDF's customer said they would rather have cheaper prices rather than Nectar..... and they did it. EDF may not have listened before but they are now.

    Nectar and the price freeze shows this. my opinion at the end of the day but i believe i know what i'm talking about :)

    Kim thank you for your comment, however, it is not that the new structure does not suit me - it is more that I do not believe that EDF have adopted this daily charge simply due to customer feedback.

    Energy99 - I agree with you. I too prefer cheaper rates than having nectar points, but when EDF notified me that they're going to stop the nectar scheme, please tell me - why did they stop it on 31st December 2010 which was some 3 weeks before producing the bill for this quarter so that I lost out on the nectar points and also, they offered me like no doubt other customers the option to sign into a 2.5% discount instead of nectar but in very small print, they try to loack me into a 12 months contract. So tell me again that these are not con tactics.
