I know a lot of people will say ditch it altogether and get avast or whatever but this is about norton products
is there a great deal of difference between the 360 and internet security?
today I bought the IS version as it was on offer in WH Smiths 25 quid...and am thinking should i have got the 360!
any ideas...I could always take it back...its still in the box

360 version has backup and tune-up stuff. Other than that, they have the same protectionSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I am waiting for mine(2011) from Amazon, and won't apologise , I have no choice for 1 PC so I got the 3 pc version £23 , however never renew via Symantec Web site (about 49) , plus it runs 1 Dell(W 7pro 32bit for oh work, hence I have to) on my 3 yr old ASUS lappy (W7 64bit pro), and an old XP box. I/we use avast on 2 netbooks (both had N 360 previously 1 yr free) and none of them have exhibited any so called performance problems. In fact the netbooks are slower to come out of hibernation/start using avast than they were on N 360. None of the boxes have been infected, but then I use FF+Noscript and spyware blaster and MVPS Host files. Nor do I blindly click on any old link which is more important than the ins and outs of the detection rates touted by AV comparisons and PC mags.
In their defence AVG turns up on here with more Hijack/MBAM threads than most, but that again could be because of lack of forethought from the user.
So WaxiesD I would go, imho, (ok less opinionated than some saying burn them) for 2011. Nobody can prove which is better for one's own circumstances, end of lecture. But don't go for AVG.;)
And now theres a thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3043768 Avast is better than AVG8
Edited PS the reason I have it for the OH PC is cos they asked for a paid for AV and offered Crapafee for free need I say more4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I've never bought Norton and it used to have a really poor reputation years back for being a resource hog and pretty poor detection performance.
It seems to be stuck with its bad rap even though the current product appears to be both very good as an av and very low on resources.
It was AV Comparatives Product of the Year in 2009 and close runner-up to F-Secure last year. It is Virus Bulletin VB100 rated and seems to fare pretty well on this website (which claims to be independent):
http://www.antivirusware.com/testing/performance/
Its biggest problem is it's not free. However for those who like to pay for AV I think it's up there now with F-Secure, G-Data, Eset and Kaspersky as one of the best.
I'll now leave that particular pigeon amongst all you cats.

Symantec is excellent !
- ref Norton (1) , the comparison is flawed .. .. its paid~for - vs - paid~for
- ref Norton (3) , much better CBA [ see Toxteth's post ] is paid~for - vs - free, then you get better analysis
- ref Norton (3) , I expect nothing from a pig but a grunt .. .. even if it is paid for !
- the ' cobbler ' said we would say "" ditch it altogether "", I don't agree if it make you feel better .. .. .. pay !
BTW if Symantec is excellent .. .. who makes Norton ?
If it wasn't for the fact that Norton's SOHO product still exists in the ranks of McAcrapp and others in the paid domestic marketplace it would not be able to cross~finance the R&D of Symantec.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. This is sound advice. We always have either the standard or performance pack version on offer below £30Squirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
