Nothing to wear!

During the summer I managed to find a complete outfit for work for £15. Comprising of; shirt from Asda £2.75, skirt from Primark £3, underware set from tescos £4, shoes and a belt from Matalan clearence store £3.50 for the skirt and 75p for the belt and a bag from oxfam for £1.
Now I have several invites for christmas do's and nothing to wear, The office party is quite formal and a dress would be expected. Has anyone found any bargain priced dresses suitable for a christmas party?

  • Hmmm. Well, i bought a gorgeous dress from tk maxx for £35. I know its not super cheap but the dress was fabulous!!

What I would do is buy a plain black dress from somewhere like primark (cheapy cheapy cheap cheap!!). Something sexy but really simple. I would then use accessories to make it glam. You could buy some fantastic crystal jewellrey to add sparkle. Places like claires accessories have some great things. How about some elbow length black satin gloves to make it formal - you can pick those up from claires accessories too for next to nothing.

Combine with a little black bag and some high heels and you'll look fab!!

  • I have one thing to say....... EBay!! Fab bargains to be had, just look carefully and bid carefully. I've had many nice skirts for 99p. Even with the postage you can't beat it.
Other than that, do you have any charity shops nearby?
    Seek and ye shall find!

Other than e-bay, maybe New Look? Or Matalan seem to have a few nice dresses. Have you got anything from last year that you could modify?

Do you have a shop called 'Select' near you? I got a gorgeous black dress with white polka dots, cinched in waist, all floaty and lovely for £24! Everyone that's seen it has gone ahead and bought one - so try Select for their dresses :)

Also try your local market. Gorgeous tops from £3! Glittery and Chistmassy (and not cheap looking). Usually if you check the tags the manufacturers are the same as New Look.

Also as someone has already mentioned why not buy a plain top/skirt etc and glam it up with a sparkly necklace from Claire's or New Look - or a sequinned scarf for about £5 in Internacionale. You can make any outfit look amazing with a bit of sparkle!
  • I was in Primark over the weekend and they had some gorgous fancy dresses which would look nice for a xmas party, they were only £15 as well which I thought was a total bargain.
    I :heart2: saving money
  • I would say TKMAXX to. I bought a dress there 2 years ago for a wedding and I still wear it to virtually all the smart parties I get invited to!
  • the supermarkets have soem fab stuff in at the moment or theres ebay, primark, tk maxx, charity shops etc. :)

matalan is doing some stunning outfits, and shoes are reasonably priced too. i find with tkmaxx though, its a case of hunting, and someone else always getting something stunning from another branch!!!
primark and select are okay, but i do think you get what you pay for, some sizes are really strange, one top ill be an 8, another ill need a 12?????
i think if its something that you would wear over and over again, why not pay a little more?
ive just bought my xmas party dress, from debenhams £100 (ooopppss) but i intend to wear it again. its a plain black dress that i can dress up or down, pleased with it!!!
